KAVAK DISTRICT

The history of Kavak district is quite old. In the researches carried out in 1942 in Kaledoruğu Tumulus, which is to the north of the town center, artifacts belonging to the years 3500-2000 BC were found. According to these data, Kavak has been a settlement since the Early Bronze Age.

Geographical Position:

It is a district of Samsun province, established on the Samsun-Ankara highway. Kavak, which is 51 km from Samsun; It is surrounded by Asarcık in the east, Havza in the west, Samsun and Bafra in the north, and Ladik in the south.

The district, which is 600 m above sea level, has a rough terrain. The highest mountain is Hacılar Mountain. Murat River, one of the most important streams of the district, rises from these mountains. Although the district does not have a natural lake, it has ponds built for irrigation purposes.

Socio-Economic Structure:

The economy of Kavak district is based on agriculture and animal husbandry. Grain products such as wheat, corn, oat and barley are grown in agriculture. In addition, sugar beet, tobacco and potato are cultivated. The livelihood of the people living in the villages in the high altitudes is mostly forest products. Industry in the district has generally developed in the form of lime, brick and tile production. Transport:

Kavak is on the Samsun-Ankara state highway connecting the Central Black Sea to Central Anatolia. Transportation to the county, which is 51 km away from Samsun, is easily accessible.
