TUBITAK Project Support Success

One of the faculty members of our school, Lecturer. See. Dr. The project titled “Improving the Oxidative, Hydrolytic and Tribological Properties of Vegetable Based Palm Oil Used in the Rolling Process with the Additives of Modified Nano Kaolin”, led by Batuhan ÖZAKIN, was granted support within the scope of TÜBİTAK 3501 Career Development Program.

The goal of the project; machining, rolling and forming etc. The aim of this study is to improve the oxidation stability, hydrolytic stability and wear ability of vegetable-based palm oil used in the processing of palm oil by adding kaolin nanoparticles and to investigate the performance of these lubricants in the rolling process. Within the scope of the project, a solution will be developed to improve the weak properties of palm oil, one of the sustainable and environmentally friendly vegetable lubricants used in the rolling process.

In the multidisciplinary project work, the infrastructure facilities of Ondokuz Mayıs University Mechanical Engineering and Chemistry departments will also be utilized. In the study, Ondokuz Mayıs University Mechanical Engineering faculty member Dr. Instructor Prof. Kürşat GÜLTEKİN, a researcher and a faculty member of Ondokuz Mayıs University, Department of Chemistry. Dr. Erbil AĞAR will contribute as a consultant. Two graduate students will be trained within the scope of the project.

This research and development (R&D) project, which will be carried out experimentally, is planned to be completed within 24 months. As a result of the project studies, a laboratory scale “Rolling Mill” will be established at Samsun University. Thus, Samsun University will be one of the few universities in Turkiye with a rolling mill in R&D scale, thanks to the support of TUBITAK.
